A Dream in the Garden of Icis Benefiting Abolish Slavery
Jun 26, 2013 - 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
546 West Colorado Street Glendale, CA 91204

Fashion Hope presents “A Dream in the Garden of Icis” an evening of fashion, fare and libations to raise awareness for AbolishSlavery.org and their mission to eradicate modern slavery.

The Abolish Slavery Coalition’s mission is to end the plight of millions of people who are currently enslaved by human traffickers and stop this crime against humanity from ever happening again. This very day, victims of human trafficking are being imprisoned, beaten, abused, prostituted, silenced, sold, and murdered by criminals who are often exploiting the victims youth, vulnerability, and financial challenges for the gain of their own criminal enterprise. Abolish Slavery acts to empower individuals like you, groups, government and non-government organizations to free modern day slaves and stop this crime from ever happening again. Extraordinary things start by a simple “extra” action of an “ordinary” person just like you. Please act today to help Abolish Slavery free the slaves and bring an end to this horrific crime.

Enjoy a fashion show featuring LA-based designers who are committed to Fair Trade practices.

CaliLu is a Los Angeles based clothing line created by Cali Norton and Lucille McGovern. Both are native New Yorkers who have gained common inspiration from adventure, travel and philanthropy. Both natural “McGuyvers”, they have always sought out unconventional methods and materials in their approach to fashion. It is a magical combination of these passions that motivated this collection.

The line features beautifully cut, incredibly flattering and versatile pieces that effortlessly transition from day to night and from beach to ballroom. The dresses, tops and skirts are made of lush fabrics that are soft to the touch. The signature “jewel back” dresses and tops have detachable jewelry that line the spine and can also be as a necklace or bracelet. Many of the pieces in the collection are reversible offering different looks in one; making CaliLu the ultimate choice for any woman on the go. www.caliluclothing.com twitter: @caliluclothing, instagram:@caliluclothing

Handbag designer Cindy Gellersen discovered her passion for fashion and accessories at an early age when she began designing and stitching her own clothing and accessories to compensate for the lack of style variety in her hometown in former East Germany. In 2000 Gellersen relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Here she managed multiple fashion design projects and eventually became lead designer at a major junior denim company in California.

In 2009 Cindy set forth on her own venture and launched Bagstil with her husband Lars. BAGSTIL is a luxury handbag and accessory line that is inspired by German craftsman ship and by the California lifestyle. Bagstil embodies style and individualism, features European designs defined by exquisite fabrics and leathers, distinctive details, and modern silhouettes.

In 2012, Cindy launched b.i.t.s, Back in the Saddle, a subsidiary line of chic riding accessories inspired by the designer’s love of horses as well as a traumatic riding accident she endured at the start of that year. Rather than lamenting the situation, Cindy seized the opportunity to come up with what she saw as a gap in the market: high end riding accessories that encompass quality, style, and practically.

At the heart of Gellersen’s designs is quality. Collections for both Bagstil and b.i.t.s are handcrafted in California with the highest quality of leather and material allowing for superior quality control and working conditions at the manufacturing level that meet the highest US standards.

Aaron Cohen will share about what they are doing to make a difference.

Aaron is an author and human rights activist specializing in human trafficking. We create long term, sustainable solutions to abolish slavery by establishing and mentoring Human Trafficking Task Forces. With jurisdiction we can rescue women and children from human trafficking in the United States and abroad.

We coordinate with other non-profit organizations such as Little Kids Rock, which is co-sponsored by Matt Sorum of Guns-N-Roses. In 2011, Abolish Slavery worked with Matt to arrange a musical instrument donation to The Shade Tree Shelter in Las Vegas, Nevada, which provides safety and services for rescued slaves. Matt was able to effectively utilize the universal appeal of music to connect with these frightened and displaced children. You may have also heard of Slave-Free Earth as well.

We continue to actively work with government agencies in Brazil, England, Mexico, Norway, Panama and the United States organizing and building United Nations sanctioned human trafficking task forces.

Abolish Slavery Coalition would like to commend and thank the city of Chico, California for taking action and defeating slavery. The following Proclamation was received on January 27, 2012.
